What Sabana Grande is like

The boulevard, formerly Av. Abraham Lincoln, runs about 1.5 km from the Edificio Los Andes, next to Plaza Venezuela, to the Chacaíto stream, where the Chacao municipality begins. It was finished as a pedestrian street in 1983 and rehabilitated in 2011. On each side run Av. Casanova and Av. Francisco Solano, with apartment buildings above shops, offices, restaurants and the Centro Comercial El Recreo. It borders La Florida to the north, Bello Monte to the south, Chacaíto and the Country Club to the east and Los Caobos to the west.

Living in Sabana Grande

What sets it apart is transport: Plaza Venezuela, Sabana Grande and Chacaíto stations, on Line 1, are about a kilometre apart, and Plaza Venezuela also connects with Line 3. Much of daily life can be done on foot or by metro. The other side of it is the bustle: the boulevard and the side avenues carry a lot of foot traffic during the day, and apartments facing them get that noise.

Where it comes from

By 1743 the Calle Real de Sabana Grande already linked the centre of Caracas with the coffee estates to the east. The Jockey Club’s racecourse ran here until 1906, when it moved to El Paraíso. Work on Av. Abraham Lincoln began in 1951, and from 1960 the area became a shopping district, with shops, restaurants and open-air cafés. The metro arrived on 27 March 1983, with the extension of Line 1 from La Hoyada to Chacaíto.

What to check before renting

In buildings with shops on the ground floor it is worth asking whether the parking space is assigned and covered, how access is controlled and who pays the condominium fee. Ask too how the water arrives, whether there is a tank and whether the building has a generator. Since the earthquakes of June 2026 we also ask for the structural inspection report, especially in the tall towers.
